E-Cigarettes Might Give You Popcorn Lung.

By  |

If you believe e-cigarettes are a safer alternative to regular cigarettes, you’re blowing smoke.

A study by the Harvard School of Public Health says 75 percent of flavored e-cigarettes and their refill liquids contain Diacetyl, a chemical that has been linked to cases of severe respiratory disease, including the incurable “Popcorn Lung” (so named because the disease was initially found in workers at microwave-popcorn factories who inhaled artificial butter flavoring).

“Popcorn Lung” is a condition which causes scarring in the lungs, leading to excessive coughing and shortness of breath akin to that of people who have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The study went on to say that e-cigarettes contain other harmful chemicals like nicotine and formaldehyde in addition to the lung-damaging Diacetyl.

Our recommendation: switch to gum.
